The golden ticket

by Iya P. Joson

DSC_1134Among the seven games in each round of the UAAP season, one match stands out like a loud and resounding One Big Fight. We’ve heard it all—alumni supporters shelling out ridiculous amounts of money and students standing in line for hours for tickets to support the blue or green. This month, G asked Ateneans and Lasallians alike: how far would you really go to get a guaranteed ticket to the next Ateneo-La Salle match?

“I would camp out of the Araneta Coliseum for an entire week.”

-Jikay Laborte (II AB CAM, DLSU)

“I’ve paid as much as P800 for an Upper B ticket, and paid security extra to get into Upper A!”

-Beloy Borromeo (I BS ME, AdMU)

“I didn’t sleep just so I could go to school to fall in line at 3am.”

-Mary Lim (II AB COM, AdMU)

“I would cut all my classes for one week.”

-Jed Benipayo (II BUS AD, DLSU)

DSC_1116“Not much since Ateneo has been really dominating recently especially against good teams, and well, La Salle has been playing like trash. So it wouldn’t be much of a ball game.”

-JV Salazar (BS MIS ’09 , AdMU)

“I would wash the entire Gesu if I had to!”

-Javi Garcia (II BS HSc, AdMU)

“I would cheer for La Salle.”

-Jonathan Joson (BS MGT ’83 , AdMU)

“I would go as far as asking somebody else to get it for me then I’ll pay them. I actually wouldn’t go very far, you can still have school spirit even if you’re just watching at home.”

-JP Del Mundo (II BS MIS, AdMU)

“I’d cut my French class to reserve tickets, even if I had an exam.”

-Isa Gonzales (II AB ISE, DLSU)

“I’ll be my boyfriend’s slave for a week to get access to his season tickets.”

-Prilla Ong Vaño (II AB EU, AdMU)

“My friend once asked me to give my shorts to her in exchange for a ticket. I was willing to give it to her, even if I was wearing it right there and then. So I guess you could say I’d be willing to walk around school half naked for a ticket to the next Ateneo-La Salle game.”

-Jamie Reyes (II BS MGT, AdMU)

“For tickets, I’ve tried sleeping on the floor of Colayco Pavilion, sleeping in a car, sleeping on a random bench in school, not sleeping at all, standing under the rain, and waiting in line for a little over eight hours. I wouldn’t mind going through all that again this season!”

-Camila Calizo (III AB COM, AdMU)

“I’d definitely give in to scalpers. Last year, I paid P1,500 for an Upper B ticket to the championship game out of desperation.”

-Courtney Padua (II AB EU, AdMU)

JasonMariposa-306“I would go to Nonoy Baclao’s room in Cervini and offer to do his homework in exchange for a single Upper B ticket.”

-Julienne Manalang (II AB MEco, AdMU)

“I would fall sleep and line up for 16 hours at the Blue Eagle Gym just to get a pair of tickets for me and my girlfriend.”

-Paolo de Guzman (II BS MIS, AdMU)

“I’m not really that desperate and picky for a ticket in the rivalry games. As long as I get to watch live, any ticket’s fine with me. I never purchase from scalpers though!”

-Luigi Miguel Wilwayco (II BS MMG, DLSU)
